One type of music I've never imagined covered by a string quartet is techno/electronic. But here we have The world renowned Balanescu Quartet from their first album Possessed. They cover THE ROBOTS by electronic pop pioneers Kraftwerk originally from the album Mensch Machine (The Man Machine). On the Possessed album they also do a great job of covering AUTOBAHN, COMPUTER LOVE and THE MODEL and POCKET CALCULATOR also by Kraftwerk.
Florian Schneider-Esleben (7 April 1947 – 30 April 2020) an highly influential German musician best known as a founding member of the band Kraftwerk with co-founder Ralf Hütter. Kraftwerk has inspired countless electronica musicians over the years. Florian continued with the band until November 2008.
I’ve been a huge fan of Kraftwerk since 1974. I was in high school and heard for the first time AUTOBAHN from Kraftwerk’s album of the same name. While the band continues to create and perform with Ralf Hütter, Florian will always be remembered and loved for his part in pioneering electronic music making it accessible and even popular.
