Neptunian Sacrifice

Can anyone beat Stevie Wonders delivery? Well probably not but Kurt Elling does a wonderful job on Golden Lady. Originally released in 1973 as part of the album INNERVISIONS, Golden Lady became one of Stevie’s (many) signature R&B/pop songs. The song, as recorded by Stevie Wonder, was heavily inspired by “Montuno” Cuban rhythms and syncopation (on the chorus).

Kurt Elling changes it up into more of a swing which is very cool. From his album THE GATE, Golden Lady was one of several pop and rock covers. Much smoother, very different, yet very cool.

sing a cool yule carol

Today I present another two-fer. This time by, what I can comfortably say is, my favorite male Jazz vocalist of all time – Kurt Elling. The first track is SING A CHRISTMAS CAROL from Kurts holiday album simply titled THE BEAUTIFUL DAY: KURT ELLING SINGS CHRISTMAS. Every track is a winner.

The second selection is Kurst version of the Louis Armstrong classic COOL YULE. Featured on a BLUE NOTE Christmas compilation.

A great song with a hilarious title and some funny as sin lyrics by one of the greatest living jazz singers from his forthcoming album SUPERBLUE.   Enjoy.
