under the covers #27

Windswept
So you probably never thought you'd hear U2 classic sung as a jazz piece. Well here's your chance.
I've posted earlier another Kurt Elling cover of Stevie Wonder. This time he takes on U2's song Where The Streets Have No Name. And wow does he handle it beautifully and this live performance includes a really wonderful guitar solo by John McClean. Really amazing work. He originally recorded this song for his PASSION WORLD album in 2015. The video is a live performance from the Blue Note, Milan in 2015.

Of course, down below is a live U2 performance also from 2015 of their original song. The interpretations couldn't be more opposite. Simply Amazing. (oops I think I said that already. LOL)

New Years Day

Starting off the new year with a hard truth. "Nothing changes on New Years Day". As the war in Ukraine, started by that fascist, meglomaniac, power-hungry pig Putin', rages on, this song by U2 from their album WAR seems the most appropriate (sadly). A child on the album cover stares out and asks, "what are you going to do?"

And as people who make News Years resolutions, resolutely start breaking them immediately....

A toast: Here's hoping this new year ends better than it began.

Trees Stripped Bare…but you go on…

This post starts a new series of images. An evolution from the previous week. Darker. Moodier. Yet wherever there is faintest light there is some hope.
For these images I removed all color except the red tones and added a sepia filter.
Trees stripped bare but you go on

“October, and the trees are stripped bare of all they wear
What do I care?
October, and kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall
but you go on
and on”

Happy New Year

“Nothing changes on New Years day”
“I will be with you again”
“We can break through”
“It’s true, we can be one”
“I will begin again”
